“So much paperwork to read! So much paperwork to push away! So much paperwork to pretend he hadn’t received and that might have been eaten by gargoyles.”
Heading up Money Advice & Planning Ltd is Iain Singleton, who is Managing Director, Firm Principal and Head Administrator for the firm. Iain started MAP in early 2009 with the aim of making it a family business that could primarily help families, by ensuring their finances are as healthy as can be. The firm is of course more than happy to take on any clients – whoever needs MAP’s help is more than welcome!
Iain has a 1st Class Honours Degree in Information Systems Development from Glasgow Caledonian University. He put this to good use in his earlier employments in financial services, to combine and link administration with IT, such that staff and clients alike could easily get the data they needed, when they needed it. It’s all well and good having an all-singing-all-dancing IT system, but if it does not link up to the work that’s being done by staff, it’s all pretty relative.
Now that he runs his own company, Iain has also taken on a more management-based role. Not only does he develop new systems, but he has a greater understanding and appreciation for what is needed from them, and can advance them further still. He can monitor staff individually and as a group, to better understand their needs and any weaknesses within the firm. This allows him to get the best out of everyone by maximising their strengths, and ensuring the collective team plugs any gaps which may appear.
He is proud that the staff worked together to attain and subsequently retain the Investors In People award, which the firm has successfully held since within 12 months of its formation. This in part reinforces that MAP is a people-firm – it looks after its staff and its clients alike, and compliantly ensures the best end result is achieved as often as possible. And if not, we will do our best to put it right.
Iain shies away from sales as he is more interested in assisting others to succeed in that area, and is all too happy to help them do what is needed of them by their clients. He is a team worker who is happy to bury himself in paperwork, to ensure work flows as it should and the company continues to progress and put its clients at the heart of all it does.
